Kaj was born on the island of Thurø.
Thurø is a small Danish island in the south-east of Denmark, rich in history with exciting stories about the hidden coves where vikings, pirates, and the Royal Danish Navy would lie in wait to make surprise attacks on their enemies.
Denmark is a land of proud sailors going on long voyages. they found ways to preserve food so they didn’t run out, starve, or die.
The vikings knew that fermentation was a great way to protect against scurvy.
And the Danish pickle was born.
The house you see on the logo and top of every jar of Kaj’s Danish Pickles is the thatched-roof home his ancestors built on the island of thuro. It is still standing and is a restaurant serving traditional Danish food.
